The Challenge

'Leadership for Gender Equality' is a new British Council programme focused on progressing gender equality and addressing the gender gaps in leadership by providing dialogue and capacity-building opportunities to civil society and higher education leaders.
Al-Moltaqa in Egypt and Transformation Space in the UK were awarded a digital collaboration grant to develop an initiative that supports the British Council’s Leadership for Gender Equality objectives.

Our Solution

1. Train mentors as change leaders who will raise awareness, facilitate dialogue and encourage affirmative action.
2. Online global discussion forum which will offer support and advice through posts and article uploaded by a community of trained mentors and other key stakeholders.

The Outcome

• 150 participants trained across both countries with a further 20 participants from Europe, Tokyo, Singapore and Malaysia
• 98% of participants learnt something they didn’t already know
• 100% of participants said one of the highlights was networking with women from across the globe
• 95% of participants went on to hold at least one change conversations after the programme, one participant has set-up a women’s development network at her work place – construction company where women are in the minority.

What participants had to say

“I really enjoyed the session and feel positive anticipation on what the next three sessions will bring - How I will be shaped by it, what I will learn and how I can begin to make a difference.”

“Great for networking with like minded women and very energising. The small breakout room session are helpful and enable us to generate ideas as well as network.”
